How ethically are the audit teams? I know from my own experience, that "TÜV Rheinland" who certifies a lot of "Made in China" electrical stuff, has not really any inbuilt ethics. For them, it is all about the profit. If it pays, and they can get away with it, they'll do it. The "Ethik-Kommission" in Germany approved of many measures during the pandemic, which were questionable. Germany's most prominent philosopher Peter Sloterdijk called president Putin a liar recently, without supplying a shred of evidence. But we all know, how easy it is to find proof of lying for every single member of the top politicians in the west.

So, where shall all this ethics come from that would be used to audit the AIs?

Yes I agree that audit is always problematic. Look at WireCard for the best example. Still the concept that AI needs to be checked is simply logical. Yes agree it will take a while to develop auditing standards, just like it did in finance.

As to politics...no comment, that is just too big a topic!

Have You ever seen "Colossus: The Forbin Project"?

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0064177/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

the point in this real sci-fi film (most so-called sci-fi are mere fantasy) is the division of power. Wherever there is might, You need division of power in order to get it under control. Lots of political problems could only arise because the division of power was undermined, like the missing correction by a real press.

"Obey and live, disobey and die" YES I saw that movie a million years ago! I'm a scifi junkie....did you notice all my newsletters have spock at the end?

So yes the dystopian AI will take over the world theme isn't new. I also it is about absolute power a subset of your division of power. Sure I agree that this is a major issue but we're certainly not the first to discuss it.

Are we there in society today? Some say yes, we're in "end times" others, myself included, think tech can still offer humanity many improvements in quality of life.

"Tech" is a double-edged sword. It has no conscience and not ethics.

It can not offer. It can be used and misused.

And history teaches us, that it will be misused every time.

Climatology, informatics, medicine, history, psychology, You name it. Every thing has been misused.

We could be living in heaven on earth by now.

But what have we done? So much war, that the ammunition stocks run empty.

The wider the disparities of wealth, the more conflict. Rule of nature, thermodynamics.

Do You see any trend for the disparities of wealth getting less?

Use the metrics of Your trade and then You can see the future.

China has abolished "absolute poverty" inside China. Therefore, peace is possible, inside China.

I saw Colossus, long ago! It was a great movie, but now eclipsed by so many others that show AI's taking over the world.

Agree that there is vast room for improvement with humanities usage of tech !
